Box Score

TULSA, Okla. – The undefeated Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team opened Southland Conference play in impressive fashion on Friday, rolling past league foe Oral Roberts, 7-0, at the Case Tennis Complex.

Southeastern (10-0, 1-0 Southland) opened the match by taking the doubles point then won all six singles matches in straight sets. Oral Roberts dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in league action.

“We were very pleased to open Southland Conference play with a good road victory over a tough Oral Roberts team,” Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes commented. “We wanted to get off to a good start in conference and we accomplished that. I was very pleased with how focused we were and with our effort.”

Southeastern started off with a strong effort in doubles play. The No. 3 team of freshman Renee Villarreal and sophomore Adriana Castillo ran their unbeaten record to 7-0 with an 8-1 victory over ORU's Rachel Scroggs and Natalia Dollar. At No. 1, freshmen Sarah Kriem and Reginka Nychytailova clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win over Marizanne Bouwer and Haley Martin, giving Southeastern a 1-0 lead and improving to 6-0 as a team this spring.

Southeastern had limited trouble up and down the lineup with ORU in singles play. Nychytailova (9-1) won her eighth straight match on the No. 1 court, powering past Martin, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 2, Lion freshman Nastya Tokareva (10-0) remained unbeaten, moving past Bouwer, 6-3, 6-3.

Lion junior Valya Rusakova (8-2) saw her opponent Melanie Marlin retire down a set to earn a win at No. 3. At No. 4, Villarreal (8-0) sailed past Tori Dollar, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, to defend her undefeated mark.

Two other Lions remained unbeaten in singles play this spring with victories at the bottom of the singles draw. Senior Isabel Brito (7-0) was too much for Natalia Dollar on the No. 5 court. At No. 6, Castillo (3-0) sailed past Scroggs, 6-0, 6-4.

Southeastern will be back in action on Saturday, facing league foe Central Arkansas at 12 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
