Lions now 11-0 overall after road victory

CONWAY, Ark. – The undefeated Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team closed out its opening weekend of Southland Conference play with a hard-fought 6-1 win over Central Arkansas Saturday afternoon at the UCA Tennis Courts.

Southeastern (11-0, 2-0 Southland) opened the match by sweeping doubles play and then took five of six singles matches in a competitive singles session that saw four of six matches extend to three sets. UCA fell to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in Southland Conference action.

In doubles play, freshmen Sarah Kriem and Reginka Nychytailova improved to 7-0 with an 8-3 win over UCA's Simona Horsikyan and Allison Murphy at No. 1. At No. 2, junior Valya Rusakova and freshman Nastya Tokareva (3-1) handled Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco, 8-5. Sophomore Adriana Castillo and Renee Villarreal completed the sweep, erasing a 4-0 deficit on the way to an 8-6 victory over Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan at No. 3, running their record to 8-0 and giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Two of Southeastern's singles points came in straight sets. At No. 5, Villarreal (9-0) remained unbeaten with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Ruocco. Kriem (6-1) was too much for Buck at No. 5 in a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Two other Lions remained unbeaten in dual match singles play and a total of three players earned three-set victories. Tokareva ran her team-best mark to 11-0, bouncing back from a set down to defeat Murphy, 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 on the No. 2 court. Senior Isabel Brito (8-0) outlasted Buyukyan at No. 6, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. At No. 1, Nychytailova (10-1) picked up her ninth straight singles victory with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 triumph over Simona Horsikyan.
