LAKE CHARLES, La. –
Alicia Noel established a new school record in the women's 400-meter hurdles Sunday, becoming one of four event champions for Southeastern Louisiana University on the final day of the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at McNeese State's Cameron Communications Track & Field Complex.

Noel joined Jeffrey Milliron (men's discus), Clarence Robinson (men's high jump) and the men's 4x100-meter relay team in winning events on the final day of action. Derek Hampton won the men's javelin throw Saturday. Each win earned 10 points toward the team totals.

“The scoreboard doesn't tell the tale,” coach Sean Brady said. “We surpassed the point totals we thought we could get on both sides. There were some pleasant surprises, including Misha Frazier who had an outstanding weekend scoring in three events as a freshman.”

Southeastern finished fourth on the men's side with 105.5 points, behind champion Stephen F. Austin (162.0), Sam Houston State (137.5) and McNeese State (122.0). It is the most points for the men since being crowned conference champs in 2009. The Lady Lions finished sixth (60.5), earning their second-most points ever at the Southland meet.

“The biggest highlight of the day for the men was the 4x1 victory,” Brady said. “It's the first time we've won it since joining the Southland. Also, Abram Taylor ran in his first meet of the outdoor season, after injuring himself in the indoor championships, and scored in two events.”

Brandon Daniels, T.J. Herbert, Billy Minnifield and Jerome Rudolph teamed up to complete the relay in 40.96 seconds, just over a second off the school record. Milliron won the discus with a toss of 163 feet, 1 inch.

Robinson, a freshman from Morgan City, La., became the first Lion to win the high jump since 2007 after turning in a mark of 6-08.75. He also established a new career best in the process, but the record-shattering performance of the day belonged to a Lady Lion.

Noel, a native of Baton Rouge, La., wrapped up the 400-meter hurdles in 59.47 seconds, almost 1.5 seconds faster than runner-up Ruth Amaku of Sam Houston, and besting the school record established by Judith Schultheis (1:00.15) in 2011. The mark also set the McNeese facility record.

Lindsey Toups set the school record in the women's 800-meter run (2:14.26) and finished fourth to pick up five points. The Lady Lions also earned points in the hammer throw (Shalicia Rochon, Brianna Golden), pole vault (Brittany Pfantz, Sharon Ann Ourso) and 1,500-meter run (Heather Fitzhenry).

Jonathan Kinchen placed second in the men's discus throw (157-06) behind Milliron and earned eight points for the men. Southeastern also earned points on the men's side in the high jump (Johnel Reams), triple jump (Phillippe Moore), 110-meter hurdles (Abram Taylor), 400-meter hurdles (Taylor, Christian Chapman), 100-meter dash (Herbert, Rudolph), 200-meter dash (Rudolph), 400-meter dash (Shaquell Windley) and the 4x400-meter relay.

“Our program historically performs at its best when it counts and we continued that this year at the conference meet,” Brady said. “We're walking away on a high note.”

Qualified athletes, including Noel, will compete next in the NCAA Preliminary Rounds, May 23-25, in Greensboro, N.C.
