Lion Defense Shines in Final Preseason Scrimmage

Korte, Misita lead the way for Southeastern

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana junior defensive end Scott Korte and junior linebacker Drew Misita combined for five of the Lions' 10 sacks in Southeastern's final preseason scrimmage Saturday morning at Strawberry Stadium.

After the Southeastern offense scored touchdown on its first two possessions, the Lion defense limited the Lions to just two more touchdowns in the final 23 possessions of the approximately 100-play scrimmage. The Lions finished the scrimmage with 277 total yards.

"Our effort was good today," Southeastern head coach Ron Roberts said. "We'll have plenty of tape to look at so we can make some corrections and evaluate our talent."

Sophomore defensive back Josh Dakin led Southeastern with six tackles, while Korte, Misita, senior linebacker Cqulin Hubert, junior defensive back Marice Sutton, freshman defensive back Trenon Trosclair and junior defensive lineman John Andrews were credited with five tackles apiece. Korte led the Lions with three sacks, while Misita was credited with two.

Junior linebacker Kaleb Muse, junior linebacker Tyler Tourelle, junior linebacker Justin Church, junior linebacker Isiah Corbett and freshman linebacker Ridge Womack each had one sack apiece. Hubert forced a fumble, with Marice Sutton making the recovery.

Junior quarterback Jordan Barnett led Southeastern with 82 passing yards on 4-for-12 passing, while junior quarterback Bryan Bennett completed 9-of-14 throws for 52 yards. Sophomore quarterback Tanner Wells connected with sophomore wide receiver Carl Pearson for a 30-yard touchdown on the scrimmage's final play.

Freshman running back Torrey Jackson led the way with 11 carries for 78 yards, while sophomore running back Kody Sutton rushed for two touchdowns. Bennett also scampered in from four yards out on the scrimmage's opening drive. Senior kicker Seth Sebastian (48) and junior kicker Ryan Adams (43) both connected on 40-plus yard field goals.
