Natchitoches, Louisiana – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's cross country teams placed 9^th, while the men's teams placed 11^th in the 2014 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships on Monday.
 
Turning in the top Lady Lion time of 21:26.9, freshman Celia Zaeringer placed 12^th overall, earning Southland Conference honorable mention honors. The top-15 finishers in each race earned all-conference honors. The top five finishers earned first-team honors, while the next five finishers were named to the second team. The 11th through 15th finishers earned honorable mention all-conference honors.
 
"Celia did great," said head coach Sean Brady. "For her to come out and do what she did as a freshman is incredible. She is the top distance runner from Louisiana that is competing in our conference."
 
Other top finishers for the Lady Lions were: Clarissa Smith (39^th, 23:01.9), Haley Gregoire (57^th, 23:37.8), Allie Stone, (73^rd, 24:47.5), Katie Neil, (82^nd, 25:49.9), Hannah Gregoire, (85^th, 26:12.2), Jennifer Ernst (91^st, 29:21.7), and Ivy Ainsworth, (92^nd, 33:46.8).
 
On the men's side, Harry Wiggins placed highest for Southeastern. The junior turned in a time of 24:59.8, placing 20^th overall.
 
"For the men, the team average was 26:59," said Brady. "That is a huge improvement from where we began this season."
 
Other top finishers for the Southeastern men were: Isaiah Gilbert (64^th, 27:04.7) Michael Perez (71^st, 27:22.9), Stephen Cassingham (72^nd, 27:23.0), Leo Moreno (80^th, 28:08.0), Alex Holden (83^rd, 28:25.09), Tyler Waggenspack (88^th, 29:42.9), and Joseph Edwards (94^th, 31:58.0).
 
 
"It was a great day to run and the course was fast," said Brady. "I think we performed well. It just happened to be a very tough group this year. We are a young team, and we're anxious to see the possibilities that are going to come in the next few years.
