HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana had its fourth player named to a national award watch list by College Football Performance Awards on Monday, as Lion senior quarterback
Bryan Bennett was named to the CFPA FCS National Quarterback of the Year Watch List.
Bennett, a Granada Hills, Calif. native, joins a trio of Lions who have previously been selected to various lists. Senior
Marice Sutton and junior
Harlan Miller are both preseason candidates for the Defensive Back of the Year Award, while senior
Isiah Corbett was named to the Linebacker of the Year Award list.
Bennett, the reigning Southland Conference Player of the Year and Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year, is one of five quarterbacks in the league to be named to the 36-player list. Lion rivals also considered as preseason candidates for the award are Northwestern State's Zach Adkins, Caleb Berry of Lamar, Incarnate Word's Trent Brittain and Tuskani Figaro of Nicholls State.
Bennett, who transferred from Oregon, is coming off a remarkable junior campaign, helping SLU to an 11-3 record, the program's first conference championship since 1961 and a run to the quarterfinals in its first-ever berth in the FCS playoffs. Bennett was the catalyst on an explosive Southeastern offense, throwing for 3,165 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also leading the team with 1,046 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.
Bennett and the Lions will open the 2014 season hosting Jacksonville on Aug. 30 at Strawberry Stadium. The visit from JU is the first of six home games for Southeastern and season tickets are on sale now by contacting the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466 or visiting
