Southeastern Adds Three for 2015

Arzaluz, Colson, Olsson are newest Lady Lions

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana announced the addition of three student-athletes who will continue their academic and athletic careers as members of the women's soccer program on Wednesday.

The newest Lady Lions are Vanessa Arzaluz (Sparks, Nevada), Payton Colson (Flowood, Mississippi) and Sofia Olsson (Lysekil, Sweden). All three will be freshmen when SLU opens up 2015.

Arzaluz comes to Hammond out of Edward C. Reed High School. She also brings plenty of top club experience having played for the San Juan Spirits and Nevada Elite FC.

"Vanessa will shine with her pace, decision making and attacking attributes," Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. "She is quick with her distribution and skillful in tight spaces. Her ability to create in the midfield will complement our returning core."

Colson will join SLU after prepping at Northwest Rankin School. During her time at NWHS, she has been named the Metro Player of the Week and Max Preps State Player of the Week. Colson, whose father Robb played football for the Lions in 1976, has also played for the Chicago Fire Jrs. of Mississippi and Gulf Coast United FC.

"Payton embodies a true competitive spirit and will be a force with her ability and strength," Hornbuckle commented. "She can play in multiple roles on the field and possesses a determined mentality."

Rounding out the 2015 additions is Olsson. A multi-sport athlete in her native country, Olsson competes in soccer, track, golf and badminton.

"Sofia will make an immediate impact with her size, strength and speed," Hornbuckle commented. "Her speed of play and ability to combine with those around her will provide strong attacking options."

The newest Lady Lions will be part of the SLU roster when the season opens in late August.
