HAMMOND, La. – With four seniors returning to lead the squad, the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team looks to return to the Southland Conference Tournament for a third-consecutive season in 2016.
The Lady Lions return to the court Aug. 27 against Southern for the opening match of the regular season, but Southeastern fans can get a sneak peak of the 2016 squad at the annual Green & Gold Match, slated for Aug. 24, just days before the beginning of the regular season.
Seniors
Landry Bullock,
Rachael Bunn,
Parrie Hartley and
Madi Odom will lead a club that includes nine underclassmen among the rest of the roster.
Following a trip to Troy (Aug. 30) for a non-conference match, the Lady Lions participate in three straight tournaments. The highlight of the schedule is a trip to West Lafayette, Indiana, to compete in Purdue's Stacey Clark Classic against Xavier, Kansas and the host Boilermakers.
All three of Southeastern's opponents at Purdue finished the 2015 season with winning records, with both No. 9-ranked Kansas (30-3) and the No. 17-ranked Boilermakers (23-10) making the NCAA Tournament. The Jayhawks lost to eventual national champion Nebraska in the national semifinals.
Conference play commences Sept. 22 at the University Center against Lamar. Houston Baptist (Sept. 24), New Orleans (Oct. 8), Nicholls (Oct. 11), McNeese (Oct. 18), Incarnate Word (Oct. 20), A&M-Corpus Christi (Oct. 22) and Central Arkansas (Nov. 1) are the Lady Lions' other Southland opponents scheduled for a trip to Hammond.
Last season, Southeastern (13-18, 7-9 Southland) picked up its most wins since the 2004 season and advanced to the conference tournament for a second consecutive appearance.
