7/27/2017 3:26:00 PM

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's track and field team was one of 218 NCAA Division I women's programs named an All-Academic Team for the 2016-17 indoor and outdoor seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.

The Lady Lions, who compiled a team grade point average of 3.034, were one of six Southland Conference teams named All-Academic.

Southeastern had 16 student-athletes named to the 2017 Spring Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. Graduate student Addison Martinez, junior Clarissa Smith and sophomore De'Kayta Alex were also selected to the Southland Conference Cross Country/Track & Field All-Academic Team.

"This falls right in line with the mission of the athletic department of being excellent in the classroom," Southeastern head coach Corey Mistretta said. "Any time we can win a national award like that is pretty exciting. The goal is for us to continue to recruit kids that meet those criteria with high academics so we can continue this run."

A full list of the 218 women's programs and 142 men's programs selected can be found at www.ustfccca.org.
