Southeastern Closes 21-Game Road Swing With 7-2 Victory Over ETSU

SLU (20-5) hosts No. 14 LSU Wednesday at 6 p.m.

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team earned a 7-2 victory over East Tennessee State to close out its slate at the Bulldog Invitational Saturday afternoon at Nusz Park.

SLU (20-5) snapped a three-game losing skid and reached 20 wins in the fewest games in school history, besting the 30 games it took the Lady Lions to reach that plateau in the 2001 and 2022 seasons. ETSU fell to 4-16 overall.

Maria Detillier led a 12-hit Southeastern attack, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI. Detillier, Lexi Johnson and Bailey Krolczyk each homered for SLU, while Colleen Kulivan and Detillier led the Lady Lions with two runs apiece.

Five Southeastern pitchers – KK Ladner, Alyssa Romano (1-0), Lainee Bailey, Ellie DuBois and Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux – combined to hold ETSU to three hits and struck out six.

Southeastern tied a school record for the second time this season for home runs in an inning to take the early lead. Detillier, Johnson and Krolczyk each left the yard in the bottom of the first inning, while Maddie Leal added an RBI single as SLU took a 5-0 advantage.

East Tennessee State took advantage of three errors to plate a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Southeastern got the runs back in the bottom half, as RBI singles by Detillier and Madison Rayner put SLU up, 7-2.

Southeastern would make that margin holdup, as Ladner, Romano, Bailey, DuBois and Comeaux each posted a scoreless frame over the final five innings.

The Lady Lions will return home for the first time in a month, hosting No. 14 LSU Wednesday at 6 p.m. in North Oak Park. The game will feature the Flood the Field promotion as SLU students will receive free t-shirts and food while supplies last. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at LionSports.net/sidearmstats/softball.
