The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a group you may not know much about, is striving everyday to ensure that the values and principles of Southeastern Athletics are being met and upheld.
What is S.A.A.C. you ask?
The Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The S.A.A.C. also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives at Southeastern and other NCAA member institutions. Comprised of both female and male student-athletes representing all sports, S.A.A.C. is charged with the responsibility of assisting in the review of NCAA proposed legislation and representing the voice of the student-athlete in the NCAA governance structure.
Once a month S.A.A.C. meets with Athletic Administration to discuss important issues pertaining to student-athletes. Within these meetings problems are solved, ideas are generated, and action plans begin to take shape. Representatives from each sport bring about issues that they feel are important and need to be addressed. We generate ideas and hopefully come up with solutions. S.A.A.C. also supports and promotes the Athletic Department as a whole.
The mission of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. Ethics, integrity, fairness, and a respect for diversity, which shall include, but not limited to, attention to gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and sport are all principles that help guide S.A.A.C.
Each year S.A.A.C. initiates and participates in several community service and outreach events. Past endeavors include food and toy drives at football games, local grade school visits, and sports clinics for the disabled. Potential plans for future activities include assisting Habitat for Humanity and taking a more proactive approach with Student Government and the University.
