Lions Track and Field/Cross Country Coaching
Staff
Head Coach, Sean
Brady
Southeastern Track and Field alumnus Sean Brady
begins his fifth season as head coach continuing to build on a successful
foundation.
With solid recruiting classes each season during his tenure, Southeastern
has improved on its performance in the Southland Conference Championships
in each of Brady’s first four seasons, including the Lions’ highest-ever
finish (sixth-place) at the 2004 SLC Outdoor Championships and a seventh-place
showing at the 2006 SLC Indoors. The 2005 outdoor squad earned its first-ever
regional (23rd) and national (53rd) rankings.
On the women’s side, the Lady Lions finished ninth overall at the 2004 SLC
Outdoor Championships, scoring their most points since 2000, finishing seventh
at the 2005 SLC Indoors, posting their highest finish since 2000.
And with a solid job done by Brady and his staff on attracting student-athletes
to Southeastern, the record books have been under constant assault with
nearly 40 records broken since 2002 - many of them previously set back in
the 1980’s.
In the past four seasons, 20 student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA
Mideast Regionals, two athletes (Chris Carter and Shakeitha Henfield) have
participated in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and six
athletes have captured Southland Conference individual championships with
31 earning All-SLC honors.
In his first season, Brady was instrumental in the performance of Courage
Idusuyi, who placed first in both the long- and triple jump at the 2002
Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. In fact, Brady guided four All-SLC
selections in his first season as Idusuyi, Janice Ezegbunam (women’s high
jump) and Asbel Ngetich (Cross Country) each earned All-SLC honors.
A former assistant at LSU and Utah State, Brady spent three years at Southeastern,
competing in the pole vault and earning a personal-best 16 feet, 5 inch
mark as a senior.
He served two seasons as an assistant coach for Pat Henry at LSU before
moving to Utah State in 1998 where he coached a pair of Big West Conference
champions. While at LSU, Brady coached several world class sprinters on
the men’s team while assisting with meet preparation.
After earning his degree in Kinesiology at Southeastern in 1994, Brady went
on and earned his Post Graduate degree from the University of Edinburgh
in Scotland where he taught athletics classes in the sports science curriculum
while helping train professional athletes.
Brady graduated from Alexandria (La.) Senior High School where he was a
district and regional champion in the pole vault. He went to Northwestern
State University, where he was a member of the school’s football team before
transferring to Southeastern in 1991.
The son of James and Karen Brady, both Southeastern alums, Sean Brady holds
certification from USA Track and Field as a Level I and II coach.
His father, a former track and field letterwinner in the 1960’s, was named
the 1995 Southeastern Alumnus of the Year and currently serves as a federal
judge.
