Julie Langford begins her second season as head coach of the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team.
The former head women’s volleyball coach for Belhaven College, Langford came to Southeastern after engineering an impressive turnaround for the Blazers’ program in a mere three seasons.
Langford joined the Blazers as an assistant coach for the 2001 season where she coordinated recruiting, scouting, practice and game-day operations. She was elevated to head coach in 2002 and served in that role for the next three years.
From 2002-2004, Langford compiled an overall record of 29-66. She doubled her first year’s record (4-28) compiling an 8-24 mark in 2003 and had a breakthrough season in 2004 with a 17-14 record.
During her time as head coach at Belhaven, Langford expanded recruiting coverage to a national level, increased athletic aid awarded to the program and improved athlete retention.
The Blazers’ overall team G.P.A. improved from 3.0 to 3.49 during her tenure and she helped guide three Gulf Coast Athletic Conference players as well as five National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Academic All-America selections.
A 1992 graduate of Concordia University, Langford also earned her master’s degree from Mississippi College in 1995.
